Materials

• Sport weight yarn in Red, Royal Blue, Black, Light Gray, and Bright Yellow
• 2.0mm or 2.25mm crochet hook
• Polyester fiberfill stuffing
• Keychain ring with chain and lobster clasp
• Thin craft wire (for the antenna) and a small black bead
• Tapestry needle and scissors
• Stitch markers

Abbreviations

• ch – chain
• sc – single crochet
• inc – increase (2 sc in one stitch)
• dec – decrease (sc 2 stitches together)
• sl st – slip stitch
• BLO – back loops only
• st(s) – stitch(es)

Instructions

Front & Back Panels (Make 2 – identical color block):

Start with Red yarn.

Row 1: Ch 16, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. (15 sts)

Rows 2-10: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (15 sts)

Switch to Royal Blue yarn at the end of Row 10.

Rows 11-12: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (15 sts)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail on one panel for assembly.

Side, Bottom & Top Gusset (The 3D Strip):

To give the boombox its boxy shape, crochet a long strip to connect the panels.

Start with Red yarn. Ch 5.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 3 ch, turn. (4 sts)

Rows 2-38: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (4 sts)

Switch to Royal Blue yarn.

Rows 39-54: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (4 sts)

Fasten off. (Note: Wrap this strip around the front panel to ensure the Blue portion aligns perfectly with the blue top sections before sewing).

Speakers (Make 2):

Using Black yarn:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6 sts)

Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)

Switch to Light Gray yarn.

Rnd 3: Working in BLO, sl st in each st around. (12 sts)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Cassette Player Deck:

Using Light Gray yarn:

Row 1: Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across, turn. (5 sts)

Rows 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (5 sts)

Fasten off. Use Black yarn to embroider a small rectangle inside the gray piece, and Yellow/White yarn to stitch two tiny cross marks (‘X’) to represent the cassette reels.

Top Handle:

Using Black yarn:

Row 1: Ch 18, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch across. Fasten off, leaving a tail for attachment.

Knobs & Side Dials:

Top Knobs (Make 2, Light Gray): 4 sc in magic ring, sl st to join. Fasten off.

Side Dial (Make 1, Light Gray): 5 sc in magic ring. Rnd 2: In BLO, sc in each st around. Fasten off.

Assembly & Details:

• Sew the Speakers, Cassette Player, and top/side Knobs onto the Front Panel.
• Using Yellow thread, embroider the tuner lines on the blue top panel, and small button dashes right below the cassette deck.
• Sew the Front Panel, Side/Top Strip, and Back Panel together using a tapestry needle. Stuff firmly with fiberfill before closing up the final side.
• Securely sew the Black Handle to the top blue section.
• Create the antenna by wrapping a 1.5-inch piece of craft wire with gray yarn, gluing a black bead to the tip, and inserting/sewing it securely into the top-right corner.
• Attach your keychain hardware to the center of the black handle.
