Materials

• Sport weight yarn in Blue, Yellow, and Brown
• Fine grey embroidery floss (for spokes)
• Black and silver embroidery floss (for chain and pedals)
• 2.0 mm (US B/1) crochet hook
• Thin jewelry wire (0.8mm) for framing
• Keychain ring with chain
• Tapestry needle and scissors
• Craft glue (optional for securing ends)

Instructions

Wheels (Make 2):

• Using Yellow yarn, start with a magic ring.
• Round 1: Work 12 sc into the ring. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
• Round 2: Ch 1, work 2 sc in each st around (24 sts). Join with a sl st, fasten off, and weave in ends.
• Spokes: Use grey embroidery floss and a tapestry needle. Thread from the center of the wheel out to the outer yellow ring, repeating to create 8 evenly spaced spokes. Secure and trim thread.

Main Frame (Blue):

• To make the frame sturdy, we will crochet over the jewelry wire. Cut a piece of wire approximately 12 cm long.
• With Blue yarn, make a slip knot and attach to the wire.
• Work 15 sc directly over the wire to cover the first section of the frame.
• Bend the wire to form the classic triangle frame. Work 10 sc over the next section (seat tube), and 10 sc over the bottom section (chain stay).
• Join the ends of the wire securely by twisting them together, and cover the joint with slip stitches. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Front Fork & Handlebars (Blue & Brown):

• Cut a 6 cm piece of wire. Cover the bottom half with 8 sc in Blue yarn to form the front fork.
• Attach the fork to the center axle of the front wheel.
• For the handlebars, bend the top of the wire horizontally. Work 6 sc across the handlebar wire in Blue.
• With Brown yarn, wrap the ends of the handlebars to create the grips, securing with a dot of craft glue.

Saddle (Brown):

• Using Brown yarn, ch 5.
• Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, work 3 sc in the last ch. Turn to work along the opposite side of the chain: sc in the next 3 ch. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly:

• Sew the Brown saddle to the top of the frame’s seat post.
• Connect the front fork assembly to the main frame triangle.
• Using black embroidery thread, crochet a small chain of 12 ch to represent the bicycle chain and sew it between the front and rear wheel centers. Use silver thread to sew a tiny pedal detail.
• Attach the metal keychain ring securely to the top of the handlebars or the seat post.
