Materials

• Sport weight yarn in Dark Red
• Sport weight yarn in Dark Green
• Sport weight yarn in White
• Sport weight yarn in Black
• Sport weight yarn in Yellow (small amounts for details)
• 2.0mm Crochet Hook (or hook size to achieve tight stitches for amigurumi)
• Tapestry Needle
• Small amount of Fiberfill Stuffing (optional)
• Keychain Ring (1 inch/2.5cm diameter)
• Small “Portugal” charm (optional)

Instructions

This pattern is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise specified. Use a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds.

Sole (Black Yarn)

• Chain 8.
• Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 5 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Working on other side of chain: sc in next 5 ch, 2 sc in last ch. (16)
• Round 2: (Inc, sc in 5, 3 inc, sc in 5, 2 inc) (22)

• Sl st to first sc, FO.

Lower Boot Walls (Black Yarn)

• Join black yarn to BLO of any stitch of Round 3 of the sole.
• Round 1: Ch 1, sc in BLO around. (22) Sl st to first sc.
• Round 2: Ch 1, sc around. (22) Sl st to first sc.

Main Boot Upper (Red and Green Yarn)

• Round 3 (Red Yarn): Ch 1, join red yarn. Sc around. (22) Sl st to first sc.
• Round 4 (Color Change): Ch 1. Sc in next 6 sts with green yarn (outer heel/side). Change to red yarn. Sc in next 16 sts with red yarn (front/inner side). (22) Sl st to first sc.
• Round 5 (Color Change): Ch 1. Sc in next 6 sts with green yarn. Change to red yarn. Sc in next 16 sts with red yarn. (22) Sl st to first sc.

• Round 9 (Red Yarn – Upper Opening): Ch 1. Sc in next 2 sts with green yarn. Change to red yarn. Sc in next 13 sts. (15) Turn, leaving a gap for the tongue/laces. (Do NOT sl st or join here, work in rows now)
• Row 10 (Red Yarn – Shaping Top): Ch 1, dec, sc in next 9 sts, dec. (11) Turn.
• Row 11 (Red Yarn): Ch 1, sc in each st across. (11) Turn.
• Row 12 (Red Yarn): Ch 1, sc in each st across. (11) FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Tongue (Red Yarn)

• Chain 5.
• Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch. (4) Turn.
• Rows 2-5: Ch 1, sc in each st across. (4) Turn.
• FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Studs (Black Yarn)

• Using black yarn and a tapestry needle, embroider 6-8 small French knots or circular stitches evenly spaced on the bottom of the sole.

Laces (White Yarn)

• Cut two 6-inch (15 cm) lengths of white yarn. Thread them through the upper rows of the red boot opening to create a criss-cross lace pattern. Tie a small bow at the top.

Embellishments (Yarn & Tapestry Needle)

• White Nike-style Swoosh: Using white yarn, embroider a swoosh shape onto the red side of the boot, as pictured.
• Portuguese Flag Emblem: Using yellow, blue, red, white, and black yarn/floss, embroider the Portuguese shield design onto the green side panel of the boot. Refer to the image for placement and detail.
• Yellow Stars: Using yellow yarn, embroider a few small starburst shapes on the red front of the boot, as seen in the image.

Assembly & Keychain Loop

• Lightly stuff the boot with fiberfill if desired, to help maintain its shape.
• Using the tail from Row 12 of the Main Boot Upper, sew the two top edges together to complete the top of the boot.
• Sew the Tongue to the inside front of the boot opening.
• Attach the keychain ring: Using a small length of red or green yarn, create a small loop at the very top back of the boot (where the heel meets the top opening). Thread the keychain ring through this loop.
• Attach your optional “Portugal” charm to the keychain ring.
