Instructions

Sizing Note: This pattern is written for a standard size Small/Medium. You can easily adjust the width by adding more starting chains, keeping the color blocks proportional.

Front Panel:

Using CC1 (White), chain 81. We will work horizontally, changing yarn colors to create the vertical flag stripes.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 11 chs (12 dc in CC1), switch to MC (Sky Blue) and dc in next 15 chs, switch to CC1 (White) and dc in next 25 chs, switch to MC (Sky Blue) and dc in next 15 chs, switch to CC1 (White) and dc in remaining 12 chs. Turn.

Rows 2-15: Continue in established color pattern, working dc in each st across. Turn at the end of each row.

Neckline Shaping (Right Shoulder):

Row 16: Work dc in established color pattern across the first 20 sts only. Turn, leaving the remaining sts unworked for the neckline.

Rows 17-25: Continue in established color pattern over these 20 sts. Fasten off.

Neckline Shaping (Left Shoulder):

Skip the center 38 sts for the scoop neck. Join yarn in the next st.

Row 16: Work dc in remaining 20 sts to the end. Turn.

Rows 17-25: Continue in established color pattern over these 20 sts. Fasten off.

Back Panel:

Repeat the instructions for the Front Panel, but for the neckline shaping, work the shoulder straps up to Row 22 for a slightly higher back scoop.

Sol de Mayo (Sun Applique):

Using CC2 (Golden Yellow), make a magic circle.

Round 1: Ch 2 (does not count as st), work 12 dc into the circle. Join with sl st to first dc.

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around. Join with sl st. (24 sts)

Round 3 (Sun Rays): *Ch 8, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 chs, dc in remaining 3 chs. Sk 1 st on the center circle, sl st in next st. Repeat from * around to create the pointed sun rays. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Use black embroidery floss to stitch two small curved lines for eyes, a small nose, and a gentle mouth onto the center circle of the sun.

Assembly:

Sew the front and back panels together at the shoulder seams and side seams using the mattress stitch.

Centrally position the Sun Applique on the front white stripe of the crop top. Pin in place and sew securely using the long yarn tail.

Scalloped Borders (Hem and Sleeves):

Join MC (Sky Blue) to the bottom hem of the top.

Round 1: *Sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, sk 2 sts, sc in next st. Repeat from * around the entire bottom hem. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Join MC (Sky Blue) to the armhole openings and repeat the scallop pattern around each sleeve edge for a cohesive, feminine finish.
