Instructions

Note: This top is worked in two main panels (Front and Back) from the bottom up, then seamed at the sides. The intricate central emblem and arabesque patterns are worked using tapestry crochet techniques (carrying yarn along the back of the work) and finished with surface embroidery for the finest details.

Front Panel:

Using MC, ch 91. Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (90 sts)

Rows 2-6 (Bottom Geometric Border): Following the color chart for the geometric diamond border, alternate MC and GC to create the interlocking lattice pattern shown at the bottom hem.

Rows 7-45 (Main Body & Emblem): Switch to WC for the central panel background. On the outer edges (first and last 20 sts), work the maroon and gold arabesque swirls using tapestry crochet. In the middle 50 sts, work the Qatar emblem (crossed swords in GC and MC, palm tree, and dhow boat) or leave this area plain white to add detailed surface slip stitches and embroidery afterwards for a cleaner look.

Rows 46-60 (Neckline Shaping): To shape the V-neck, divide the work in half. Work each side separately, decreasing 1 st at the neckline edge every row until 10 sts remain for each shoulder strap.

Back Panel:

Repeat the same bottom border as the front panel. For the main body, you can either repeat the tapestry pattern or work in solid WC or a simple striped pattern in MC and WC for simplicity. Shape the straps to match the front panel.

Assembly:

Align the Front and Back panels with right sides facing. Sew the side seams together using a mattress stitch. Join the shoulder straps securely.

Scalloped Borders & Straps:

Join MC at the bottom hem. Work a round of scalloped edging: *Skip 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, skip 2 sts, sl st in next st; repeat from * around the entire bottom edge. Fasten off.

Join MC at the neckline. Work the same scalloped edging along the entire inner neckline and outer armholes, incorporating the GC and WC stripes as shown in the image to frame the top beautifully.
