Materials

Instructions

Flower Granny Square (Make 8 – 4 for front, 4 for back):

• Rounds 1-2: Flower Center and Petals

  • Round 1 (Flower Center): Create a MR. Ch 2 (counts as 1st hdc), 9 hdc into MR. Pull ring tight. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. (10 hdc)

  • Round 2 (Petals): Attach new color in any hdc. Ch 1. (Puff St in same hdc, ch 1) in same st. (Puff St in next hdc, ch 1) around. Join with sl st to top of first Puff St. FO. (10 Puff Sts)

• Rounds 3-4: Squaring the Flower

  • Round 3 (Square Background): Attach new color in any ch-1 space from Round 2. Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc). In the same ch-1 space, make (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) – this forms your first corner. *[3 dc in next ch-1 space], (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-1 space (corner)*. Repeat from * 2 more times. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. (4 corners, 4 sides of 3 dc clusters).

  • Round 4 (Outer Border): Attach Cream/Off-White yarn in any ch-2 corner space. Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc). In the same ch-2 corner space, make (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). *Dc in each of the next 9 dc along the side. In the next ch-2 corner space, make (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc)*. Repeat from * 2 more times. Dc in each of the remaining 9 dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. FO. (4 corners, 4 sides of 15 dc each).

  • Repeat the above 4 combinations for the Back Panel (Squares 5-8).

• Bag Assembly:

  • 1. Join Front Panel: Lay out Squares 1-4 in a 2×2 grid (1 & 2 on top row, 3 & 4 on bottom row). Using Cream/Off-White yarn and sl st or sc, join the squares together: join Square 1 to Square 2 along their touching edge, and Square 3 to Square 4 along their touching edge. Then join the bottom edge of Square 1 to the top edge of Square 3, and Square 2 to Square 4.

  • 2. Join Back Panel: Repeat Step 1 to create the Back Panel with Squares 5-8.

  • 3. Create Side/Bottom Strip: Using a main pastel color (e.g., Pastel Yellow or striping colors), ch 15. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (14 sc). Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. Repeat for approximately 70-80 rows, or until the strip is long enough to go around the three sides (bottom and two sides) of your assembled front panel. FO.

  • 4. Attach Side/Bottom Strip: Starting at one corner of the front panel, sc the long edge of the strip to the side, bottom, and other side of the front panel. Repeat with the back panel, ensuring the strip is evenly attached to both the front and back, forming the bag’s depth. Leave the top edges open.
