Hat Body (in Red Yarn)

• Round 1: Start with a Magic Ring, ch 1, 8 hdc into the ring. Sl st to join. (8 hdc)

• Round 3: Ch 1, (hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st) around. Sl st to join. (24 hdc)
• Round 4: Ch 1, (hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around. Sl st to join. (32 hdc)
• Round 5: Ch 1, (hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around. Sl st to join. (40 hdc)

Eyes (Make 2, in Black Yarn)

• Ch 8.
• Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 5 chs, 3 sc in last ch. Now working on the other side of the starting chain: sc in next 5 chs, 2 sc in last ch. Sl st to join to first sc. (16 sc)
• Round 2: Ch 1, sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st. Sl st to join. (18 sc)
• Round 3: Ch 1, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st. Sl st to join. (20 sc)
• Fo, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly

• Using white yarn and a yarn needle, embroider the white eye details onto the black eye pieces. These should resemble an upward-pointing, slightly curved ‘V’ or a sharp almond shape, starting from the inner corner of the eye.
• Position the finished black eye pieces symmetrically on the front of the red hat. Refer to the image for placement.
• Using the long black yarn tails and a yarn needle, carefully sew each eye securely onto the hat. Weave in all remaining loose ends.
