Materials

• Sport weight cotton yarn (Category 2) in Royal Blue, Sunny Yellow, White, Grass Green, Light Pink, Orange, Coral, and Turquoise

Instructions

Base Top Construction:

This crop top is worked from the bottom up in the round to the underarms, then divided for the front and back panels. All color changes are made at the back-center seam.

Body Base:

• Round 1: With Royal Blue yarn and a 3.25mm hook, ch 160 (or size adjust in multiples of 10 to fit hips/waist), join with a sl st to form a ring. Ch 1, sc in each ch around, join.
• Round 2: Ch 1, *sc 4, ch 1, skip 1; repeat from * around, join.
• Rounds 3-6 (Stripes): Change to White. Work in sc for 2 rounds. Change to Yellow, work in hdc for 2 rounds.
• Rounds 7-20 (Main Body Panel): Change to Royal Blue. Work in sc for 14 rounds. This will serve as the canvas for your ‘Curaçao Team’ and Flag appliques.
• Rounds 21-25: Color pattern continues with 2 rounds White sc, 2 rounds Yellow hdc, and then transition to Royal Blue to begin neckline and armhole shaping.

Sleeves (Make 2):

• Sleeves are worked separately in rounds. Start with Royal Blue, working 40 ch. Work 8 rounds of alternating yellow, white, and blue stripe patterns.
• Finish the sleeve edge with a scalloped border: *Skip 2 sts, 5 dc in next st (shell), skip 2 sts, sl st; repeat from * around.

Appliques & Embellishments:

The Curaçao Flag (Center Front):

• With Royal Blue, ch 25. Work 10 rows of sc.
• On Row 7, switch to Sunny Yellow to create the horizontal stripe, then switch back to Royal Blue for the final 3 rows.
• With White embroidery thread, sew two small stars in the upper-left quadrant. Sew flag to the upper center of the blue chest band.

Tropical Palm Trees (Make 2):

• Trunk: With Brown yarn, ch 12. Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Fasten off.
• Leaves: With Grass Green yarn, join to the top of the trunk. *Ch 8, sl st in 2nd ch and each ch back to trunk; repeat from * 4 times to create 5 palm fronds. Sew to the left and right sides of the flag.

Hibiscus Flowers (Make 4 – 2 Pink, 2 Red):

• Using a 2.75mm hook, make a magic ring. *Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st into ring (petal made); repeat from * 4 more times to create a 5-petal flower. Sew to the base of the palm trees and sleeves as pictured.

Lettering & Assembly:

• Using Yellow embroidery floss and a chain stitch surface technique (or slip stitching directly onto the fabric), spell out ‘CURAÇAO’ across the chest panel. Use White floss to write ‘TEAM’ directly underneath.
• Sew front and back panels together at the shoulders. Sew sleeves to the armholes.
• Attach mini tassels along the bottom hem border in alternating blue, white, and yellow colors to finish the look.
